Dewaco receives the WTC Turku Internationalization Award 2023

Dewaco’s CEO, Riku Granberg, is extremely happy and proud to receive the award on behalf of Dewaco Oy. He describes the company’s activities and his thoughts on the reasons for receiving the award as follows:

“The WTC Turku Internationalization Award is a truly prestigious tribute to the work, expertise, and passion with which Dewaco employees contribute to creating a cleaner future every day. Water-related challenges are constantly increasing worldwide, and our Dewa brand sludge treatment equipment, manufactured in Laitila, is essential to run processes in drinking water and wastewater treatment plants to name a few examples. In addition to providing quality, we aim to offer competitive products so that our equipment can be sold in countries where the need is greatest. In 2022, half of Dewacon’s revenue came from developing countries. Throughout our history, we have delivered equipment to over 90 countries. European countries such as Germany have traditionally been strong markets for us; however, currently, we have achieved significant growth in places like China, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Fortunately, I can state that, through these efforts, Dewaco has developed a high level of expertise and company culture in international trade.

Expanding distributor network

The effects of the pandemic continue to be felt in the investment equipment market, and we also notice the impacts of the increasing instability in global politics, causing delays in decision-making and uncertainty. Nevertheless, we have experienced strong growth in recent years, and our strategy aims to continue this in the future. A concrete example of the impact of growth is the opening of an office in Turku at the beginning of this year as our staff numbers increased. A crucial element in fostering growth is expanding our distributor network, in addition to maintaining competitiveness and offering high-quality, customized solutions to meet customer needs. Maintaining competitiveness also relies on having a skilled and efficient supplier network, which, fortunately, we find in Finland. So, we are delighted to share the news of the award with our partners, both locally and globally, across five different continents.”

WTC Turku Internationalization Award

The WTC Turku Internationalisation Award recognizes and encourages companies in Southwest Finland, that have succeeded in the international markets.

The award has its roots in the Turku Chamber of Commerce’s export award, which was an honorary award given to an international company. The export award was last given in 2021, and a total of 14 times. The award was received by Perkin Elmer, Bayer Oy, Vahterus Oy, Treston Oy, Trafotek Oy, Ledil Oy, Almaco Group, Elomatic Oy, Teleste Oy, Hytest Oy, Biovian Oy, Pemamek Oy and Langh Tech Oy.

Now the award has been renewed and is known as the Internationalization Award from 2023 onwards. The criterion for winning the WTC Turku Internationalization Award is that the winner has operated in international markets for at least three years and has demonstrated continuous growth in international operations.

The company’s operations must be established and financially stable. The award winner has, for example, created innovative solutions or products that have aroused interest and demand in foreign markets.

Possibly, the company has also promoted the recognition of the expertise and brand of Southwest Finland globally and acted as a role model and inspiration for other companies in the region.

‌Other significant merits in the field of internationalization are also considered when evaluating proposals. The backing organizations of WTC Turku, Turku Chamber of Commerce, Business Turku and Varsinais-Suomen Yrittäjät each propose one local company as the recipient of the award, and in addition, WTC Turku Club members can propose a company. The board of WTC Turku Ry selects the winning company, which is awarded annually at the WTC Turku Ry annual meeting.
