World Oceans Day

08.06.2024

The Magnitude of the Ocean’s Role

More than 70 percent of the Earth is covered by seas, and over 97 percent of our water resources are in the oceans. The oceans sustain all life on Earth, providing a home to many species, food, and oxygen to breathe, and they even buffer climate change. Now, this magnificent blue planet is in serious danger.

The ocean takes up over 90 percent of the heat and about 30 percent of the CO2. Climate is still warming as humanity has failed to achieve climate goals, and CO2 levels are still rising. This is causing major challenges to ocean ecosystems. Many species are already declared endangered, and if the situation continues, many of them will become extinct.

In addition to climate change, we burden the oceans by dumping all kinds of waste, chemicals, wastewater, and garbage. More than 80 percent of the world’s wastewater is still discharged untreated into rivers, lakes, and seas.

It’s important to understand that there is a domino effect occurring in the ocean. Climate change and human activities that harm the seas cause the oceans to become more vulnerable, and climate buffering is no longer as effective. This endangers the existence of all life on Earth.

Steps Towards Carbon Neutrality

Even though the situation is critical and we don’t have time to lose, there is still a lot we can do. We can take steps towards carbon neutrality and a cleaner future for our blue planet.

We, at Dewaco, are committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2026. In addition to that we are committed to innovative product development for more sustainable and efficient solutions for waste water treatment solutions.
